Health Benefits

Don’t let their size fool you — microgreens are tiny vegetables packed with big nutrition. Harvested just a few weeks after germination, these young greens are loaded with essential nutrients and bursting with flavor. Here are just a few of the potent potential benefits you can get from eating more of these little guys.

Dense in nutrients

Microgreens can contain up to 40 times more vitamins and antioxidants than their mature counterparts. They’re rich in vitamins C, E, and K, as well as beta-carotene. Here are the ways these essential nutrients can improve your overall health and well-being:

Vitamin C: Provides immune support
Vitamin E: Protects cells from damage
Vitamin K: Supports bone health and blood clotting
Beta-carotene: Promotes healthy skin and vision

Boosts immunity

Loaded with vitamins, antioxidants, and phytonutrients, microgreens help strengthen your body’s natural defenses, better equipping you to prevent and fight illness

Decreases inflammation

Bioactive compounds found in microgreens, such as glucosinolates, may help reduce inflammation throughout your body. Popular varieties for this benefit include broccoli, kale, and radish.

Supports heart health

Certain varieties of microgreens, including red cabbage and amaranth, can help lower cholesterol and reduce your risk of heart disease and other cardiovascular conditions.

Packed with powerful antioxidants

Thanks to the presence of bioactive compounds like phenolics, tocopherols, and carotenoids, microgreens can help fight against oxidative stress, which is behind cell damage, diseases, and cancers.

Provides digestive support

With high concentrations of enzymes and fiber, microgreens can play a critical supporting role in your gut health and digestion. And unlike some raw vegetables, many microgreen varieties are easier to digest and may make you feel less bloated.

Boosts your brain power

Polyphenols found in many microgreens may improve memory, strengthen cognitive function, and even reduce the risk of neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia, Parkinson’s, and multiple sclerosis.

Low-calorie impact

Microgreens are incredibly low in calories but high in flavor and health benefits, making them ideal for any diet and friendly to every health-conscious eater’s everyday routine.

Sulforaphane Bioavailability from Broccoli Microgreens
A 2023 study by the peer-reviewed food science journal Foods investigated the bioavailability of sulforaphane, a compound found in broccoli microgreens, in healthy adults.

Sulforaphane metabolites were detected in the urine and stool samples of study participants after a single serving of fresh broccoli microgreens, indicating effective absorption and metabolization. This suggests that broccoli microgreens are a significant source of sulforaphane, known for its antioxidant and potential anti-cancer properties.

Feasibility and Tolerability of Daily Microgreen Consumption

In the peer-reviewed nutrition journal Nutrients, a 2025 study was published analyzing the feasibility and gastrointestinal tolerability of consuming red beet and red cabbage microgreens daily in healthy middle-aged and older adults. Participants consumed two cups of microgreens every day for two weeks.

The results found that, while there were no significant changes in blood pressure or vascular function during this time, the daily intake did not cause gastrointestinal distress or other adverse effects, indicating that microgreens can be safely incorporated into your regular diet.
